3 STEPS TO GET PAID AS A DEVELOPER – Q&A Friday with Duc Tran EP 01

HOW TO BUILD TWITTER WITH FIREBASE – FREE WEBINAR:
My first freelance project was to build an ecommerce site for my girlfriend and her partner’s online business. At that time, I barely know how to build websites and apps.

But I started anyway because all I wanted to do was help others with what I learnt.

I kept going and over the months and years after that, my online business continues to grow. This year, I’m expecting it to reach 6-figure revenue and on a sure way to 7-figure.

How did I do it all? In this episode, I shared my 3 simple lessons I applied to get freelance clients.

Enjoy!

Takeaways:

Build your personal website that includes your portfolio. People don’t know what you are capable of till they see what you created. These apps in your portfolio can be apps you publish or simply apps you learnt to create.
Start now. Start from your current social network. You know what you have to do. You have to knock the doors and ask the local restaurant to build them a website or an app. You know you have to get on freelancing websites like freelancer.com or fiverr and start asking people. Start! Start! Start!
Ask for referrals. Once you get a client and serve him/her well, ask for referrals. Keep broadening and deepening your connections. Chances are that guy knows another business owner who needs your skills.

Thanks Duc I liked your advice alot.
I have a question, for beginners it's pretty hard not just to start or to market them selves but also it's hard to know how much knowledge they need to have as I believe people learn during the job itself.
My question for you is, as an IOS developer , how much knowledge do I need or minimum knowledge that at least I have to know so I start searching for clients?
    Thanks alot for your videos.

Duc – Finding freelance work is a pretty big topic. I find that it's good to build real world, face to face relationships. It can be in networking groups, developer meetups, neighborhood parties, or going door to door, etc.. You've got to let people know what you do and you're available. Also, like you said, don't just leave after you've finished the job. Go above and beyond their expectations. Set up an analytics account or some added feature that benefits the client and schedule an additional meeting to show them how it works, which is a great time to ask them about future work or referrals.
