    Is $50-150 reasonable?

Watched and liked this video…I would add that you don't want to work with people who don't want to pay your going rate…they tend to be problem clients, anyway. If you are to progress in the creative industries you also have to know when to say "No".

Hey will I know you're a busy guy but I was wondering if you would be able to stop by my site denzomorales.com/work and just let me know based on my portfolio how much you think I should be charging for logo design I'm kind of struggling with this.
    Thanks

I'm a beginner in logo design and if I charge a logo more than 5$ nobody wants to pay for it… I don't find any solution..

I agree completely with what you are saying but as a designer I feel the logo mark itself isn't necessarily what encompasses a client's brand. A good brand identity is an umbrella of visual devices that associate consumers to that particular product. The logo itself acts as a Trade Mark to to summarise these devices. And act as gatekeeper to the brand.

Sure you can buy a generic logo for  $5-$20 online, but does this come with an extended set of brand guidelines for future applications? Or will it simply crumble apart when the next art-worker tampers with it and renders the logo irrelevant.

When Carolyn Davidson made the Nike 'Swoosh' she was paid very little for a simple mark. Did she embody the brand ideology of Nike and everything that comes with it in that very moment? No.

You do not need to worry about these sites potentially ruining the Design Industry at a freelance level, any client who thinks that their company image is worth $5 is not worth having as a long-term client. An inspiring business owner is someone who recognises the importance of placing a product within it's market, and investing; time, care, passion and logic. True craft will never be replaced with what is essentially 'clip-art'.

Exactly the same in the photography industry, weddings mainly. These students and youngins shooting "free" weddings for portfolios. HORRIBLE!

Thank you for this, I have recently been doing wedding stationery for my cousins and if you see how much time I have spent on it I am working below minimum wage! Far enough it is on the side but no matter what it should still be valuable as it is coming from a skilled designer. Thanks Will 🙂

    Just to clarify!

    I know that on Fiverr:

    not everything is $5

Not all the work Is Bad

    People Can Be Successful

    the platform ITSELF isn't bad

    – But I do know that it damages the community – undervalues your work and encourages you to sell services at a cheaper price than a LOGO DESIGNER would charge. And by doing this it undervalues logo design in a huge way.

    Thank You 🙂

I sell music on Fiverr.com and it's my full-time job. I started on fiverr when you could only sell a gig for $5 – sure that wasn't fun. I disappeared and returned 2 years ago when extras were introduced. People that think fiverr.com is everything for $5 need to realise it's not like that anymore! 🙂

My god this video is essentially my thoughts exactly haha, fiverr is the WORST website out there if you're looking for a designer. Not to make any of you that use this website feel like you're doing it wrong, but if you're creating good quality work, you certainly shouldnt be underselling yourself  🙂 The worst part is when someone contacts you asking for a logo design, you give them an estimated or fixed price and they where expecting you to say $2-$5. Great video man, I hope people see this and understand it from the designers perspective 🙂

$5 Fiverr logo designer = someone who illegally uses clip-art downloaded from internet adds it to text using pirated adobe software and sells it for $5 more than it's worth on Fiverr. Total designer investment $0 and 5 minutes time. No wonder they think they are making real money.

  12. Thomas Edward Avatar

Will please do more research on fiverr.com. Gigs start at $5 (fiverr) but with the use of extras and custom quotes the actual price paid is far far far greater than $5. There are little 5 minute jobs that people can offer at $5 and why shouldn't they? If you want a decent design with thought put into the process people will still pay a good price for the service even on Fiverr.com

Come on Will, you're better than slagging off online marketplaces. It makes no sense to do this and then link to creative market in your gig descriptions.

    Peace

So true. I've had so many people come to me wanting work for free or a discount and it's so frustrating, not to mention insulting. Much of designers' work is getting devalued with sites like these and it's making me a bit cautious about the future of our profession.

Great video as normal dude! xD

  15. liam stubbins Avatar

im a student if i was to do a logo what would be the going rate in your opinion

  16. PullaN Avatar

Love this video Will! Completely agree with what you're saying and it's such a shame to see people undermining the value of a Logo. 🙂

  17. magnetik Avatar

A bit more than $5? More like a lot more. I charge well and customers are happy to pay for quality work. Any other designer with self respect would do the same. I think the designers in fiverr are based in India or something, thats why they do it for dirt cheap

  18. Aprexo Avatar

I totally agree Will. When we charge a decent price. You produce better work. just how it is. -My Opinion

100% agree man … designing is a hard thing! It isn't like it takes 5 mins to do it. Well said man.

I'm a designer and I do logo design, I always charge and come to an agreement with the client that he's gonna pay before I make the design.

Where has this video been all my life?
Your advice is very helpful. Thanks a lot.

Websites like Fiverr should not be used for logo design. Most of them are ready-made templates which can be found somewhere else from your web. It's understandable for a simple blog you just started but should be avoided if you're a brand/business. Would you want your company to be represented by a logo that costs cheaper your lunch?

That said, things like short voiceovers for your video or simple sketch artwork commissions are still great on Fiverr.
